Submitting Material to Christis

Christis is happy to receive any unsolicited letters, articles, poems or artwork (cartoons, drawings for the front cover, etc.). We can't guarantee that we'll publish everything, but we will definitely consider anything that is submitted. Christis reserves the right to edit submissions for length and clarity.

In order to save time, please read the following guidelines before submitting an article to us:

Suitable subject material for Christis articles

Christis is a specifically Christian magazine. However, this does not mean that every article must be a bible study, or a detailed discussion of Christian doctrine. We welcome material based on social, political, religious, cultural and personal issues, provoking discussion within Christianity and beyond it. Articles, artwork, poems, reviews etc. are all perfectly acceptable. If you are in any doubt as to the suitability of an article, then feel free to contact us.

If you’d like some suggested topics on which to write, see our article ideas page.

Writing style

Christis is primarily a British, university based magazine, and the majority of its readers are students of university age. This should be borne in mind when considering submitting articles to us. We recommend that you have a look through our most recent back issues in the Christis archive to get a good idea of the sort of things we do. Of course, new ideas are always welcome!

We do not have any strict guidelines for the structure of articles. However, it would help us if you could indicate where you want headings, or emphasized text (bold, italics, underline etc). We do have a ‘house style’ for the use of quotation marks, which is described in Guidelines for Using Quotation Marks. We would appreciate it if you could read this and follow it, as it saves us a lot of trouble.

Copyright and editorial policy

Anything submitted to Christis becomes joint property of the magazine and the author. We may pass them on to other publications at our discretion. So may the author.

Format of submissions

We would much prefer to receive articles in electronic format — either as Corel Word Perfect or Microsoft Word documents, in Rich Text Format or just plain text. These can be emailed to us at the address given below. However, artwork is generally far better submitted on paper (if this is its original format) as we can then scan it at any resolution we need. Please bear in mind that Christis is mostly in black and white - only the covers are in colour. This does not rule out colour artwork, but it must look reasonable when converted to greyscale in case it cannot be put on a cover.

Addresses for submitting material

Contact information in the form of the author's name and a valid email address and/or a postal address must be included with each submission. We can not accept anonymous submissions. Only your name will be published in any form, unless you specify otherwise. Requests for anonymity will be considered on a case by case basis. Your contact information may be held on record in order for us to be able to get in touch with you concerning your article in the future. We will not disclose it to anyone outside of Christis, and you will receive no bulk emails from anyone.

Submissions can be sent in via email to submissions@christis.org.uk. However, if this is not possible (for example, if you are submitting artwork, or don't have an electronic copy of something), then post it to us at the following address:
