Welcome to the final edition of Christis for this academic year! It has been a hugely enjoyable and rewarding experience to take part in such an exciting project, bringing so many Christians together. In addition, this term has seen the Just 10 Mission led by J John on the Ten Commandments in York Minster. The final two sessions are on Thursdays 13th and 20th June at 8 pm; if you have been and would like to give your thoughts, please see their website www.bbc.co.uk/northyorkshire/talk/just10. The CU are running a minibus service for people interested in attending; please email socs25@york.ac.uk for details. And to get into a summer mood, do go along to the Fair Trade Café on Vanbrugh Paradise every day in week 9 from 10 am until 3 pm. If you would like to volunteer and help out, please email socs203@york.ac.uk; they would love to hear from you!
This year, we are losing people who have made huge contributions to Christis over the last three, four, or even seven years! I would like to thank them all for their hard work and support. They have often, without knowing it, provided answers to prayer, and I wish them every success in the future; please keep in touch. In particular I would like to thank our Treasurer Matt Horner who is leaving for a year in Germany, and who has been of tremendous support to Christis. At our recent EGM, Ian Miller (a reassuringly familiar face) was elected to take over from Matt until our annual elections later on next term. We also felt that responsibility for subscriptions and advertising needed an extra pair (or pairs) of hands, so at the same meeting Chris Charlton and Paul Harford were elected as the ‘A-Team’ to deal with such things.
Our losses do mean that we are in need of new people; if you have enjoyed reading Christis this year and would like to be involved, please come and see us at Freshers’ Fair in week 1 of next term. Even if you would rather just read the magazine, come and see us anyway … our copies disappear very fast and the only way of ensuring you will get one is by becoming a member, thereby getting a copy delivered to your pigeonhole. If you are graduating this year, do please consider taking out a subscription — remember, you do not have to be a member of the university to contribute to Christis!
Finally, I’d like to share with you some thoughts from Philippians 4:6–7:
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
God has brought Christis as a magazine, and also me personally, a long way this year and in both circumstances has shown me the truth in these verses. It is indeed with thanksgiving that I finish the year, and I wish you all a joyful and peaceful summer.
Much love,
Ellen Wakeham
