Issue 68
Editorial
Beginnings. Whether we think we've tidied neatly up what we leave behind us or not, often we're forced to move on, to adjust to new circumstances, and begin again, as well as we think we can. Welcome then, to the new beginning of another academic year at the University of York — whether it's your first, your last, or something else entirely. Welcome also to Issue 68 of Christis — we hope you like it.
Since 1989, Christis has been “The University of York's Christian magazine”. Intended to promote dialogue and understanding between the different brands of Christianity on campus, it is independent of any other Christian or religious group at the University. Two other roles have often featured in this magazine: to present Christianity and its ideas about Jesus Christ to those with no experience of it; and also to introduce Christians at the University to contemporary ideas and events that affect all religious groups.
How have we tried to do these things? And what's the entire religious environment like in York? Here, parcelled up in one tidy package, you'll find what we consider to be some of the best of the last four years of student writing in Christis, along with reviews of some of the worshipping religious communities in York and religious activity at the University itself.
And where will we go from here? Well, that's not settled yet. We need help and ideas to continue, and welcome any who wish to join Christis, of whatever beliefs or ability at writing or computing. We have skills to pass on, but we know we also have much to learn … Christianity can often be about finding inspiration. Hopefully you'll find something in here that inspires you.
