We at Christis asked all the Christian societies here the following:

  • What is your aim?
  • Give three words to describe what you do at meetings?
  • What was your favourite meeting last year?
  • What is your (societies’) favourite fish?

True to form none of them answered [well maybe some of them did — Ed.] so we made up the following:

Christis

  • Our aim is to offer an open and challenging attitude towards Christianity, provoking discussino within it, but also extending beyond it. We want to provide a forum and a mouthpiece for concerned Christianity in its broadest sense. Oh yeah, and we also produce this magazine.
  • At meetings we have: chaos, discussion, and hilarity.
  • My personal favourite of all the meetings over the last year was the special meeting that we had for freshers in week one. After a brief production meeting to discuss the contents of the next issue and assign those present roles in its creation (if they wanted to get involved), we got on with the main purpose of the afternoon: wine and nibbles! There were copious quantities of both, provided by the current committee, with non-alcoholic drinks for those that didn’t. The meeting was fun and light-hearted; it was open to everyone (as all our meetings are) and the extremely informal (as usual) atmosphere gave us a chance to chat to each other and get to know all the new faces.
  • Being a bit bored with Grey Mullet, I am going to suggest that our favourite fish this year is the Carp. Poached from the university lake and then grilled, it makes the perfect accompaniment to the perfect Christis picnic.

CASSOC, the Catholics Students’ Society

  • According to our bumf CASSOC exists to provide a social, religious, sporting and intellectual focus for Catholics and non-Catholics alike.
  • At meetings we Pray, Think, Socialize (in that order).
  • Favourite meeting of the past year: the fancy dress bar crawl to celebrate the Jewish festival of Purim (courtesy of the Jewish society). This was a great chance to get to know other religious groups (and be very, very silly in the process).
  • Our illustrious President claims he is torn between a barracuda and a herring.

MethAng, the Methodist-Anglican Society

  • MethAng exists to provide a forum for discussion about Christianity in an open, welcoming and challenging way.
  • MethAng is brought to you by the words Hark, Heed, and Hob-nob.
  • The favourite meeting of the last year was the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity prayer meeting, as it was fascinating to see and experience the different ways of worshipping God.
  • Favourite fish has to be the Bass (How easy was that?).
