The Christmas Carol Service Preview
Upon writing this article I thought it might be pleasant to take little soundbites, short quotations … however, as usual none of the Christian societies on campus were feeling willing to dish me the dirt (except one may I say), so I’ll just make it up! I say this with a smile on my face and in Christian Love … so I shall briefly describe last year’s event, and then from the people I have spoken to give a brief resume of what you should expect.
I went to it for the first time last year, and was throughly captivated. Pro Deo performed a song or two from Godspell which they’d put on the term before (with the cutest drummer in the world), the CU did a brilliant short piece of drama and so goes the list. But I must not categorise. Must not label. The Carol Service isn’t there to ‘evangelicalise’ (yes I do mean that word), to Catholicise, to Methodise or Anglicanize, although it may try and Christisize (joke). Fair play, each Christian organization has some role in this service, but hopefully to represent the unifying aspect of Christianity, the birth of Jesus Christ.
Come along regardless of your denomination, beliefs or lack of them. Come sing carols … come listen to carols …
This year’s service will be much like the previous year’s in the sense that it will have various people doing various things … reading, drama, but you do the music … see ye there …
